Camshaft

Everything on the Volvo S80. Sometimes called an "executive car", the S80 was Volvo's top-of-the-line passenger car. P2 platform.

Camshaft

Post by lauradell6861 »

My volvo S80 has been losing power in exceleration over the last month. My mechanic who had recently rebuilt the engine because a new timing belt and tensioner failed 3 months after installation, just shrugs his shoulders. Before all of this it ran like a dream.Last week it started but I couldn't move it.Then it stalled out. I had it towed to a volvo dealership. Upon looking at it not only did they notice that the Camshaft actuator wasn't the correct part for this car but also the camshaft of how this could happen.

The cams will fit in either location and the CVVT units will interchange even when they are not the correct one for the engine.
Did they rebuild or use a used engine or a used cylinder head?
If it is a 2.9 they may have installed a T6 head and they have the wrong parts even though the head will fit.

I forgot to add that it is a T6. 2.8 I believe he said the pistons and the cylinders were replaced. On another post I made I mentioned that volvo said the camshaft was bent and loose. Could this have caused tears in the "new" timing belt. Before any of that was discovered the check engine light came on. A code said it was for the "camshaft position sensor". It was replaced. It made no difference and check engine light came back on. The power became even worse until it wouldn't move. One more thing is that the catalytic convertor was completely clogged.
