Headlights

Post by Guest »

I have a 2004 S40 and tonight when I went to turn on my car the night time lights did not turn on, the only thing that would work are the high beams, daytime lights, and fog lights, any ideas of why they wont go on or what switch I can hit to make them night time lights?

Mr mate has a problem with headlights and indicators, both of which are not working. The inidcators had gone first, then some days later the headlights. I am trying to track down a wiring diagram to get to the bottom of it. When I do I will let you know.

I have an old ('97) S40 and it drives quite sweetly but it has always blown bulbs for fun (it's also blown a coil and is currently off the road because the main dealer didn't have a replacement).
On its last roadworthiness test, I replaced three bulbs, and guess what: it failed because a brake light had blown on the two-mile journey to the test centre . For the re-test, I replaced the bulb right outside the centre.
I've mentioned this issue to a few mechanics and dealers and they all laugh and say the problem occurs simply because the lights are on all the time or because I keep my foot on the brake pedal at traffic lights.
However, since I twigged it as an issue a couple of years back, I have been conducting my own informal running survey. RESULT: late-90s Volvo S40s with a full set of working lights are in a really tiny minority. CONCLUSION: Volvo at the end of the 20th century were struggling with this most basic of technical design issues.
