What engauges the coil of the air pump relay?

Post by Hannan »

I have a P0410 code and have tracked the problem down to the air pump system. The air pump was out but was not full of water when I changed it. The new pump works when I bypass the relay. The vacuum control valve that enables the injection valve to open works fine and has plenty of vacuum. There are no vacuum leaks (source to valve or valve to valve). The check valve is working. The injection valve opens with vacuum and completely closes. The relay is also good.

The problem is at the relay: When bypassed, the airpump runs fine. On the coil, one terminal is 13.8V while the other is 2.7V (typical of an open collector circuit i.e. computer control). I would assume that the air pump would come on some period of time before the control valve is enabled. What grounds (enables) the coil of the air pump relay? Is there a sensor? Is it computer controlled? Should it be tied to ground? Broken wire? Where can I get a schematic?

Thanks in advance!

I believe it reads from the coolant temperature sensor. Hope that helps.

Sometimes it will run when engine is HOT...for example....when you sit at a red light or at prolonged idling.
