I have a 2011 and can't find any coilovers/springs etc. to lower the 08-11 xc70. I've looked everywhere I can think of and keep getting the same answer. "They don't make one".

Has anyone heard of ANY company, ANYWHERE that makes a set of coilovers or springs to drop the newer models a couple of inches?

I am going to tell you the same thing, they don't make them yet. If I were you, I would buy a set of OEM springs and cut a coil off of them. Either that or you will have to wait.

You may be the first person to ask this.
Obviously it's not going to make sense for a company to develop them and make their investment back

I signed up just to reply to your post. I'm looking for a new wagon and I'm disgusted to find that the market for full mid-sized wagons in the U.S. will be gone by 2012. If Saab can get its act together, it may have the only viable 2012 wagon in this class. Otherwise, all that's left are a few SUV wannabes like the XC70, Outback, and Venza, and small wagons like the Jetta, CTS, and TSX. Even Audi and BMW have discontinued their larger wagons, but I think the Benz is still available, if you have $70k to spend. The XC is emerging as least poor choice for me, but the ridiculously high ride height and poor fuel economy hold me back. Might as well get an MDX at that point, but I just can't do an SUV.

So, to your point, if I could get past the mpg, I'd seriously consider lowering an XC70. Can you not just swap out a set of OEM springs for the "old" 2008–2010 V70? The problem you'll have with that or cutting the springs is voiding the warranty. Recent warranties on these vehicles have been pretty generous, so that's probably too big of a risk for nearly all consumers, and therefore aftermarket manufacturers. I like the way you think, though.

My little rant aside, mark me down as the second guy interested in lowering a late model XC70, with two questions. 1) will cutting the springs void the warranty or compromise their integrity, and 2) will a set of OEM springs for the V70 work on an XC70, and 2a) will V70 springs on an XC70 void the warranty?

I have cut springs on vehicles before, and as long as you don't go crazy, you should be OK. BUT, I think that it would void the warranty. You would be tampering withe the suspension.

I don't think that replacing the springs with others should be a problem. I am going to have mine professionally installed. That's the closest thing to not screwing around with the suspension I can think of. I just don't like the too high stance and the soft suspension/body roll on corners.

Why would you have a 300hp turbo vehicle and still give it the suspension of a grocery getter?
