Changing fuel pump 98 S70... 2nd line stuck

Post by heckler »

So I have the cover off and I've managed to get one of the lines off the pump housing but the 2nd will not be moved. Curious if there is some sort of trip from getting these things off so I can get on with my life.

I can post a pic if that helps.

k figured that out.... now i try and unplug the wiring and it has some funky wax stuff in the terminal and I can't get it to come out.

update:
That wax stuff wasn't meant to come out... totally sweet.

Any help is appreciated, can't seem to find any documentation online.

I'd pull up a tutorial for changing the fuel pump.

wax stuff? Could it be what they call HONEY coating to keep the car from rusting? Is it on the wire terminal which is connected to the right of the fuel pump itself?

There is a coating on the top of the pump itself which is not supposed to be removed. However.. if your removing a damaged unit then you would not care so much right?

I figured it out. I think now I can easily change a pump in under 30 min. The "wax" stuff was definitely not supposed to come out. I fixed it though with some foil and a lighter. I was just changing the pump and not the core. Once I knew what I was looking at it went pretty easily. I've got some pictures that I'm going to post for others to hopefully help them, so they're not going into it blind. All-in-all it wasn't that bad.

I searched for a pump tutorial but wasn't able to find it. :\

Thanks for the reply.

I want to replace the fuel pump on my 98 s70 t5....there seem to be 2 main components....so what do I change...i mught be confused about the parts. Also since the relay is a known failure point, should I just replace that too?

thanks

90% of the time, you just need the pump insert if it's no longer working. The check valve is included in the whole pump assembly, that keeps the fuel pressure up for your next start when the motor is turned off. That does fail sometimes, but if you're not experiencing hard starts now, the check valve is still OK.

Fuel pump relay would be good preventative maintenance (make sure it's not the culprit first if you suspect the fuel pump isn't running).

Thank-you! I will look into that...given the age of the car I am inclined to replace whatever I can.
