Automatic transmission failure

Post by johann »

Like so many fellow XC90 owners, I also experienced a complete geatronic transmission failure a week ago. I got the impression of a gear slipping, "Transmission service required" message showing and the transmission just completely failed. Techicians found no error codes even after reloading / updating the vehicle's software. ATF appears absolutely normal. But all are aware of the failing XC90 transmissions up to 2005/2006 year models....The one thing that boggles my mind is that the AW55-51 transmission has a maximum torque capability of 329 Nm, yet it is fitted to a vehicle with a torque rated at 340Nm. To a lay person that purely does not make sense. Are there any opinions or explainations?

xc90 trans failures were on the gmt65 trans these failures were due to internal failur of the trans and leakage of antifreeze from the cooler the aw trans has been pretty bullet proof since day one except when flushed and refilled with the wrong fluid
