95 850 Turbo--Fuel Pressure Regulator

QUESTION FOR EVERYONE: What if some Butthead of a Mechanic places a Compress Air Line to the Fuel Rail? So, I know the
Fuel Regulator will be toast, but what other damage could have been done? Is there a SECOND Fuel Regulator? If so, where? Are my Fuel Injectors Damaged? The car seems to run fine once warmed up. On a positive note, I did manage to find a junkyard car where I pulled 5-Injectors (2.0L 1993 850-non-turbo) & Fuel Regulator.

I"ve replaced the fuel pressure regulator & installed proper "Fuel Injector" Fuel Line (vs just fuel line). I'm amazed that a "Real"
mechanic bent a standard fuel line 90-degrees, and used "worm" type clamps. Anyways, my 850 seems to start, but this morning,
I did have to crank her a bit--though I wouldn't consider it a hard start. Normally, I just turn the key without touching the pedal.

What was it that Dilbert use to always say?

There is also a check valve at the fuel pump that should keep the pressure up while the engine is turned off.

Test the fuel pressure after turning the ignition key off. If it drops straight to zero, that check valve is to blame.

jblackburn, I think you're right. My 850 starts right up with about 1.5 seconds of cranking. I do not touch the gas pedal. I'll go after the check valve later. When the Air Pressure destroyed the diaphram in the fuel pressure regulator, I suspect it went back to the vacuum tree and then the idle control valve--is ICV damaged? There's also a vacuum line leading to what I think is a solenoid mounted above the radiator shroud. Is that damaged? A third line leads to the EGR Valve (I have another).

My car seems to run okay, but feels like it's burning rich. At red lights, I can hear, and see the turbo gauge moving. When I shift into neutral, the gauge drops (as does the sound). SO, is the TURBO Solenoid (is that the "vacuum tree" connected to the PTC nipple?), the cause of this fluctuation? Before this all started, I was getting 27mpg, now about 17mpg. Is the TPS (throttle position sensor) suspect? I didn't see a vacuum line to it.

I obviously can't afford all these parts. Don't know if the junkyard car I pulled stuff off of is still there. Any help/thoughts appreciated.

Start at the regulator and go from there. I think it is definitely bad - and it is dumping raw fuel into the intake which would explain a lot of your symptoms.

Nothing else attached to the manifold should be damaged - it sucks in, so fuel wouldn't have got to anything else.

See if running conditions improve after replacing the regulator - be sure to reset the computer via disconnecting the battery and draining residual charge from the car before reconnecting it (a few taps on the brake pedal will work). That may also help your starting issue - if not, pressure test your fuel system and see if that check valve at the pump is acting up too.

It's been a month, what did you find and have you fixed it yet? Did it take out the fuel pumps check valve? Once you replaced the regulator did it solve the running rich from it sucking fuel through the ripped diaphragm?
Just curious as I have 2.3 turbo too. As for the boost gauge, are you seeing it fluctuate on the vacuum side?
