S70 GLT performance options

How to go faster, stop quicker, and turn harder. Chips, exhaust, larger turbos, bigger/slotted/drilled rotors, high performance brake pads, manual boost controllers, performance shocks/struts/springs, airbox mods and more! Also discussion on HID and Xenon lights, aftermarket foglights and other exterior lighting.

S70 GLT performance options

Post by whirlygig »

Hey guys,

Hope you can help. I purchased a 99 S70 GLT and am looking for a little more power. I have seen alot of improvement threads for the T5 but none for the GLT. I have the low pressure turbo. Is the T5 turbo a different turbo all together or is it just he software that's different.

Someone please give me some ideas to help my poor GLT get some punch.

Thanks,

Whirlygig

The T5 has a 16T turbo and the GLT is equipped with a 13G turbo and a slightly higher compression ratio. You could upgrade the turbo, but you'll need some custom tuning and possibly propane or alcohol/methanol injection to control potential detonation problems due to the higher compression if you plan on raising the boost to anything above 1 bar or so.

If you don't want to spend gobs of $$$, I'd suggest a cat-back system from IPD or Engstrom along with an ECU upgrade. This will cost you no more than $900 and should give you a bit more oomph. To get major power out of it, you're gonna have to spend a lot more than that.

Thanks White850turbo,

Who do you suggest to go with for the ECU upgrade?

Expensive but IPD for your ECU flash upgrade....they won't blow your engine or transmission up with their upgrade like some fly-by-night much cheaper "chippers" will.
