hello everybody this is my first time using this site....i have a 2006 volvo s40 24i and smoke was coming out from behind the wheel on the drivers side ...i took the wheel off and the pads looked fine and the rotors were good but when i turned the rotor with my hand it seemed hard to turn ,so im guessin i have a bad wheel bearing....is there any speciality tools i need to complete this task and have others had this same problem????? any insight on this problem will be helpful

Not necessarily a wheel bearing, the caliper could be sticking. Did you remove the pads?

If indeed it's a wheel bearing, you'll need some sort of puller to separate it from the drive axle.

Remove the caliper, as though to change the brakes. Or, if you're handy with the tools, you can try pushing the pads back in without actually removing the caliper, but it's usually easier to just unbolt it and slide the whole thing off the rotor.

If you have a hard time pushing the pads (piston) back in, that's your second clue it's sticking.

If the caliper is sticking on its slide pins, you'll be able to tell by one pad being much more worn than the other; if this is the case, you probably just need to clean the pins with a wire brush, relube, and reinstall.

If the caliper piston itself sticking, then you'll need to rebuild the caliper, or just replace it.

thank you very much for ur help ...we got the prob fixed or its not smokin now i think it was the pins so i cleaned them and it seems to be closing and opening fine so ill watch it closely and hope that fixed it
