2005 v70 handbrake shoes
2005 v70 handbrake shoes
Hi recently changed my discs and handbrake shoes, however the Haynes manual i used didn't show how to do the shoes. The manual i had was for 2000 to 2007 but the pictures showed a different handbrake setup. It was quite easy to do the hardest part was finding where to wind off the cable,so i could fit the drum/disc back on.It's under a plastic flap inside the handbrake gaiter, just unscrew it until you have enough play to squeeze the shoes together to refit the disc. The problem i had was,if i fitted both new shoes the disc would not go back on,so i fitted one new shoe on the bottom and left the old shoe at the top,i did this on both sides so it matched. When the shoes have worn in a bit i will take it all apart again and fit the new ones at the top. This was a nightmare job, which could have been so easy ,if i had the right info,so i've put a few pictures up for you to see.hope they help.

I am not surprised you had a lot of trouble with the hand brake. When I did it on my 850 wagon, I had to release the tension on the pads and then bang the new rotor on very lightly with a hammer. It ended up working well in the end.
