I have a 2006 S60 with 70k miles and having trouble with the fuel guage.
At no particular level of fuel in the tank the fuel guage will suddenly drop to empty and the fuel display reads ---- miles to empty.
If I turn the car off and restart, the fuel guage will return to the actual level in the tank. At first this would happen maybe once a month but now it is about once a week. The last time it did this the car sputtered for a moment but never shut down or ran with any issues.
I was thinking sending unit or a maybe a ground wire issue that could have been caused but the crazy amounts of salt they put on the roads this winter. Any thoughts?
Thank for looking
TOM G.
Fuel Guage quits suddenly
Rear Electronic Module. Controls everything in the rear. If you have other electrical issues (locks, windows, awd, fuel door) it could be a failing REM.
part $450 labour 1 hour.
Not saying it is but could be (hope not for your sake).

Well, I replaced the fuel sending unit and the guage worked for about a week and then went out again.
I did some internet checking on the Rear Electronic Module and from what I read usually most symptoms refer to lights out, locks and controls not working and I even read about some performance issues.
Where is the Rear Electronic Module located? Can I replace it with a junk yard unit? Is this a dealer only item? I ask that because I could not find a listing as a purchasable part.
I guess what I am getting at is that I really dont want to spend $450 and looking for the needle in the haystack that I have not thought of
Any suggestions would be gladly accepted.
Thanks
