Front dash speaker don't work on 1995 850

Post by Dizio »

1995 850 turbo wagon speakers don't work on the dashboard. I bought this car as a fixeruper. I know there are speakers on the dashboard but don't know how to get to them, short of removing the whole dashboard. Does anyone know how to get to them? Maybe through the vents on the dashboard? My wife has a 1996 850 and her speakers work.

Chances are the magnets fell off. They are easily removed. First pop off the grill and then there are two push pins that secure the dash speakers into the dash cap.

I replaced mine with some stock 3 1/2" coaxial Infinity speakers. I have a writeup in the repair database on changing the speakers out on an 850 sedan.

Just in case, as I was reading the OPs message to mean he had no clue how to get to the speakers themselves as the grilles aren't immediately obvious on how to get them off - you'll want to use something wide, flat and thin to get inbetween the grille and dashboard on the side closest to you while sitting in the driver's seat. I have plastic pry bars for this sort of thing, but if you're super careful, even something like a butter knife will work - just don't want to cut into either the dash or grille. Then just pry against the dash, and the grille pops out!

Thanks Lee and Urbex. I will try this today this evening. It's nice today and family want's to take a jaunt to the mountains. I thought I would have to pry the vents on either side of the dash to get to them.

Removing the grills was pretty easy. Thanks guys once again.
And Lee, you know your stuff. The speaker magnets had separated from both sides! This speaker repair was
a fairly easy task to accomplish with a leatherman.
