Is there special tools needed and does cams need to be locked ?

no special tools and no cam lock. 2002 has no springs in CVVT units so the turn it backwards and then back to align marks is unneeded to unload the CVVT spring.
align marks and mark it yourself for added security that it is aligned when you are done. White-out makes great marking paint.
The coolant pipe is the tough part on that one. depress and pull back on the latch tabs to get that line off.
