Methinks I doth have too much on thine plate . . .

Post by vjaneczko »

So I did my distributor, wires and ignition coil a few weeks ago, and I have the following parts waiting for a good weekend:

Trip computer and panel from a '96 (for the turbo needle not on the '97):
021.JPG
Yep, PCV parts:
022.JPG
Magnetic oil plug with new crush washers (why did I forget to order the oil filters?!) Timing belt, accessory belt, water pump and all the little helpfull bits:
019.JPG
Silicone hoses, front strut brace and some speakers for the back doors and D pillars:
024.JPG
So what do you think - just one weekend to do it all?

I think I'm out over my ski tips, you know?

:D

Other things on my ToDo list:

Fix the rattling dash from hell
Fix the rattling hatch from hell
Build a unique removable subwoofer box
Find a 'real' 200K badge
Tint the windows
Dye all the outside plastic trim black
Fix the busted odo
Find some Volans or Tethys
Get the car repainted
Replace the seat covers - with Bobec's quality skins!
Fix the seat heaters

Hmm, maybe I need two weekends (and six helpers!)?

From someone who has previously pulled an entire suspension and timing belt weekend (and now need to do it this weekend for my car + PCV), methinks you're crazy

That is a pretty aggressive weekend. I've got a similar one coming up as soon as my new axles get here from Marty at Raxles and the new shocks and struts come in from FCP.

Sometime in the next couple of weeks I need to work on the '94.

Shocks and struts (Sachs/Boge).
Spring seats (OEM XC90)
Bump stops (OEM)
Bellows (OEM)
Tie rod ends (OEM)
Axles (RAXLES)
Front Side hydraulic motor mount (I May regret it but I think it is a URO)
Sway bar links (OEM)

I'm not sure what the condition of the upper strut mounts are but a have a couple of good serviceable used OEM mounts that I saved from the Platinum when I changed everything. They only had about 120k on them as opposed to the 250k+ original mounts that are on the '94.

Fortunately, in my case, they are all more or less the same systems with the exception of the motor mount and I have done them all before.

Good Luck with it,

I'm too lazy to ever do that much at once

I do one big project then set the rest off forever. Luckily mine doesn't really need anything at the moment besides struts and new tires.

Oh, and we have a strict no Shakespeare/Old English policy.

Good luck!

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA - Must have missed that one. < Made my day!
What did the instrument panel cost? I've got one thats falling appart as we speak, i have like 2 lights working in it, the entire sockets are bad. That alone will take you at least 3 hours, taking apart the dash is very hard, and act like its made of glass because pieces break easily.
Speed has never killed anyone, suddenly becoming stationary... That's what gets you.

I lucked-out and found someone parting out his car over in the For Sale section. I think it was $100 shipped but I could be off - I got it a few months ago and felt no need to swap it in winter!

Yeah, I'm right there with you.

I believe I spent close to three weeks doing my brakes and suspension, but I took my time since up until that point I had only changed out brake pads & rotors so I had a big learning curve.

And it's the same story with all this, except the speakers. I think I have all of the write-ups bookmarked so I can look 'em up easily when I stumble on something!

Since yesterday I helped a buddy with his brakes and rotors, I wanted to do something to my car and I only had 20 minutes free so I went with the easiest job;
OBX Front Brace Bar V-2 Flat, as they call it.
OBX Front Brace Bar V-2 Flat, as they call it.
The OBX Strut Bar was only 70 bucks shipped and was a lot of fun testing it!

For anyone thinking of getting this, do it do it do it! When you get it, do yourself a favor and change the bolts so the nut is towards the firewall and the hex head is towards the engine (for those with a sharp eye; No,I didn't do this but only thought of it after the install). It'll make the install that much easier. Keep 'em loose when you install it and tighten them only after you've tightened the strut nuts.
