I'm guessing you have the 5 speed. It calls for JWS3309 which is Toyota Type IV fluid. Which is cheapest to get at your Toyota dealer. You will see a drain plug at the transmission's lowest point. Remove this plug and collect it into a pan. Measure how much comes out. I use a graduated pitcher from the local dollar store for this. Remove the yellow dip stick from the top of the transmission. Add fresh fluid through the dip stick tube in the same amount that came out. Start the engine and move the selector through each gear for three seconds twice. Check your fluid level. I usually like to have it at lowest mark when cold. Then take it for a good 20 minute ride and check it hot. Adjust if necessary.
I usually do this every oil change on a car I pick up until the fluid is nice and pink. Thereafter I usually do it twice a year.
DO NOT REMOVE ANY BOLTS ON TOP OF THE TRANSMISSION TO ADD FLUID! Apparently a few people have made the mistake of removing a bolt that looked like a fill point, but it was actually holding vital parts of the tranny in place. They destroyed their transmissions.
