There are no pullers for the cam shaft pulleys, nor do you even need one. You remove the 3 bolts holding the pulley on, and it will more or less just fall off (mine needed a slight tap from my palm). There is a cam pulley locking tool involved, is that what you're referring to? Or are you referring to the CRANKSHAFT pulley?

If you're not replacing the front main seal, there is absolutely no reason to remove the crank pulley. The timing belt has plenty of room to come off once the balancer is removed. If you ARE replacing the front main seal, and the crank moves a bit while removing the pulley, that's no big deal as it can be reset when you put the pulley back on. You don't want it moving a lot though, as it could potentially cause a piston/valve collision. Unlikely to result in damage, but better to avoid it anyways.

Im sorry but my terminology was off. What I was referring to was on page 4 of this tutorial paragraph 9. The harmonic balancer. It was locked so I could remove the bolt (counter clockwise) but when i tightened the puller to take it off it turned clockwise..?

yeah, the extension you put in the block behind the starter area will only prevent the crank from turning counter clockwise. The crank will still turn clockwise quite a bit. DON'T allow it to turn until it stops internally, and then using that to stop the crank. That will be piston to valve interference.

Gotta come up with some way to keep the crank from turning (or just hit it with a couple quick hits from the impact like I did). It won't take much, the balancer isn't held on by much force.

@Urbex Thank you, It did not keep turning till it stopped, but it has turned about 3/4 of a turn. I just spoke with my local Volvo mechanic and he said it can be re-aligned easily later and I am going to take the balancer all the way off and continue with the tear down... Thank you again

That was a great tutorial, I'm however going to replace the piston rings at the same time, all i need is the torque specs for all this a and I'm good to go, once again...great tutorial.
