abs module rebuild for 2004 xc-70?

Post by sun4384 »

I got the yellow ABS light on my 2004 XC70 (with "ABS/Anti-Skid service required" message), and the dealer told me the ABS module needs to be replaced, costing about $1100. The car vibrates (I can here and feel it) when ABS is supposed to engage in, but does not actually work. I found an article regarding rebuilding the ABS module in the following link:

https://www.matthewsvolvosite.com/forums ... ule+repair

Now, I'm thinking of trying this method, but also found some other articles saying the 2004 ABS module is totally different and rarely fails. Would it be worth trying the method? (In other words, would re-soldering possibly solve the problem?) Or, should I just let the dealer take care of the problem? I have good soldering skill, but inexperienced with mechanical stuffs. The dealer helped me locate the ABS module, but it looks I have to remove the thing called "air box" first.

Any advice I'll appreciate.

2004 is a different module entirely and rarely fails (yes you are right)and that article has NOTHING to do with an 04 unit.
I would get a second opinion

Then, would it be not worth trying to take the ABS module apart and resolder joints? At this point, if I let the dealer handle the ABS problem, they will surely replace the unit. It's a situation that I may lose little by even screwing up the ABS module. What else could I possibly do other than taking the ABS apart and resoldering joints?
