O2 Sensor Non-Fouler trick?

Everything on the Volvo S80. Sometimes called an "executive car", the S80 was Volvo's top-of-the-line passenger car. P2 platform.

O2 Sensor Non-Fouler trick?

Post by bronson1111 »

I have a 2002 Volvo S80 T6 and my CEL is on. The codes are PO422 and PO420; main catalyst efficiency below threshold and another catalytic problem. I passed emissions three months ago so I am not required to get my CAT fixed. I don't have the money right now. I heard there was a way to get rid of the CEL by installing non-foulers to the O2 sensor. Does this work? If so, which O2 sensors do I install it on? I hope this is an option!

Thank you,
Bronson

I got the P0420 code when I installed an OBX DP with race cat. Passed emissions but got codes. Bought an O2 extender (fouler/spacer) L shaped from ebay for $50 and the codes have never come back. Install was 10 minutes on REAR sensor.

Do you have a 2002 S80 T6? I checked under the car and there are two sensors near the catalytic converter. There are also two in the engine area. Should I install a non-fouler onto both O2 sensors?

Thanks!

I installed a universal high flow cat on my 01 V70 2.4T last month and had the same problem. I used the spacers from this site and they were about $50 each, http://www.bigdaddiesgarage.com/mini-cat-cel-fix.html I haven't had any issues since and it only took about 10 minutes to install, but the P0422 code is the upstream O2 sensor alot of times. You can get that sensor from the FCP site link above for about $110 after the 10% discount and free shipping.

Wow... nice "spacers". They are the exact same thing as a non fouler with a "honeycomb" top. Nice try...

Not following you, but if you found something cheaper that does the same thing then go for it and good luck.
