04 V70 Fuel filter question. Where'd it go?

Post by buddyjim »

I crawled under my 2004 V70 2.4 this morning to ck out the fuel filter location in preparation for replacement & to my amazement it doesn't have one. Was there a mid-year change that put the fuel filter in the fuel tank?

If your car happens to be an engine code 64 (look at the first few numbers of the vin) or has the metal gas tank (or both) the filter is located in the tank and is only serviceable by removing the fuel pump.

buddyjim,

Running into the same issue. V70 occasionally stalls on acceleration, bought new fuel filter, but can't find location. Were you able to find and replace the fuel filter? Thanks

The filter is serviced together with the pump. The pumps and filters are unlikely to be the cause. That car has a fuel pressure sensor on fuel rail as the ECM runs pump at a regulated speed to control fuel pressure to elminate the return style pressure regulator. The fuel pressure sensors fail and the fuel pressure will be lower than the sensor reports and hesitation is the common symptom. It takes scan tool and pressure gauge comparison to assure this is the problem.
