Volvo 740 1989 Turbo

Post by theodore »

Greetings forum:

I have a 740 1989 4 dr Turbo. This problem just happened.
My question is regarding sputting and stopping will driving. After sitting
for 10 to fifteen minutes the vehicle restarts and drive for 5 miles and repeats the same sputting and stalling. Is there certain fuel filters that cause this, are is this a clasic example of fuel pump failure?
Where should I begin to trouble shoot the problem.

sounds more like bad hall pickup in the distrubutor if you have one or the hall pickup speed sensor behind the head on the bellhousing if you don't. Check for fuel pressure when it will not start to eliminate fuel pumps or fuel pump relay. And there is one more thing. The radio suppression relay that supplies 12v to the injectors (i think this is unlikely in this case)
