Hey,
I use to own a 98 VW and the buttons wore out on my key fob. The forums said if you order the lazer cut key from volkswagen (the half that clips into the remote half of a switchblade key) and program it, you can update your old key and fob to the new switchblade single unit. So I ordered on of ebay and it worked! (the key cost about $100 bucks from VW and the ebay order [button half of remote] $10).
Well both my remote for my volvo are cracked. I know you can order replacement shells for them but I was wondering if the same thing can be done for the VOLVO key fobs to switch them to switchblade keys?
Has anyone tried this?
flip key for volvo?

Nope
If you want a switchblade for an earlier car you need to buy the entire unit
I'm also not sure if it will work on a 98 -2000, definitely not on a 98 and earlier

JRL, you are correct. The blue-dot immobilizer keys for the '99 and '00s cannot be used with the red-dot keys ('01-'08)...the blue-dot ones work with the Bosch immobilizer, the red-dot ones are for the Volvo CEM-based immobilizer.JRL wrote:Nope

Well, no transponder in the key. At least not in the US models.
IIRC, if he just wants a key, but no remote all he should need its the key itself.
Couldn't you get a key blank for the switchblade cut? Would they be the same from P2 to Gen 1?
This is still keeping in mind that the remote part of the switchblade is not usable with the
'98 keyless/security. But hey, you'd have that flip key "cool" factor.
