Hi,
I have a 1998 S70 T5 with Automatic transmission and 260,000km (160,000 miles). I do the quick type fluid change every 2 years. However, is there a transmission filter that should be replaced as well? Secondly, is there any other preventive care that should be done to keep it running new?
Thanks.

Neither our 850 or S70 has a trans filter, and I have never heard of any mentioned on the boards.
I'm not sure what you mean by a quick flush, but it takes about 12-13 quarts pumped through the transmission to get a decent flush with clear red fluid coming out. Every two years or 30k should be sufficient to keep it in good shape for normal driving habits.

Hi,
I checked various online websites that sell car parts. I never found a transmission filter for the s70 model.
I have learnt that there are two methods for changing oil in the transmission. The quick way only removes 1/3 of the oil. The long way is more involving and is more expensive and removes larger quantity of oil. I paid $22 for the oil for the transmission. The reciept does not mention what volume. It took the guy about 20 or 25 minutes to do the oil change.

Taking 20-30 minutes for a tranny flush sounds about right....$22 also sounds about right if you used regular Dextron II or III. Did he hook it up to a machine? My ATF costs about $80 because I use Mobil-1 full synthetic ATF, but it's probably not needed. How much did he charge you for the actual labor?
Sorry, but the original post was a question about a tranny filter. Although our cars don't have a filter, a "magnafine" filter can be added to the lines. Do a search for them in google. IPD sells them for about the same price that the manufacturer sells them for. These go in your lines so you have to cut them to install...magnets pick up small particles.
