Help, Advice and DIY Tutorials on Volvo's P80 platform cars -- Volvo's 1990s "bread and butter" cars -- powered by the ubiquitous and durable Volvo inline 5-cylinder engine.
Congratulations. I have been pulling for you. I have had similar problems with my tranny but not to the extent it has left me stranded. So if something happens I will be getting a hold of you. I have only been on this site a short time but you have been a valuable source of information to me.
I may consider this as preventative maintenance... I'm at 246k miles now. Although I'm also keeping my eyes open for a wrecked 5spd to swap, preferably a T5 so I can take the turbo and Ecu too.
that's amazing, I've read through all the pages.. just amazing... I mean usually when you get an old car, you'd be worried about the condition of the automatic transmission, as all other parts you can pretty much tell fairly easily... whereas it's hard to tell the condition of the transmission and when that fails usually the car aren't worth fixing... but in this case, everyone was proven wrong.... again... just amazing...
My family has never owned auto cars for any period of time - we've always had manuals. The 2 other autos that ARE in the family now - a 2001 Ford Escape and a 2005 Jeep Liberty (that we've owned since new and taken care of as it should have been) - both have jerky and slipping transmissions - 105K and 65K respectively (the Jeep has been doing it since as early as 50K, but hasn't blown up yet). I know several people with Honda vehicles that have had transmissions go out on them. These Aisin-Warner transmissions, though - they're awesome!
