So, 1st time changing the engine oil on my '95 850 turbo. It had regular oil and my buddie and I put in Mobile 1 Synthetic. While we were putting in the oil we read the manual wrong and put in 8 quarts instead of the 6. We started the car and it idled roughly. we let it idle for a minute and shut it down. Realized the mistake and drained the 2 quarts. Took it for a test drive - still running a bit rough than before the oil change.
Prior to the oil change we did the tune-up kit, replacing the plugs, wires rotor, etc. All Bosche stuff, no after market stuff. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Check all intake piping to make sure it's nice and tight and that you're not getting any unmetered air in the engine, double-check all vacuum hoses. I don't think it's likely that overfilling by 2qt and idling it for a minute would be the cause. Were the plug gaps checked to be 0.028" before installation?

My friend thought that too, but the intake piping is tight. The vacuum hoses were left alone. We checked, and the plugs were gapped properly - they came pre-gapped. All the wires are going to the right place. So, we let the car cool down a bit, then checked the plugs for oil residue. Plugs 2 and 4 had a little oil on them, while 1, 3 and 5 were ok. One thing we noticed was that spark plug 4 had melted a little bit on the elctrode.
We did a compression test before we did any of this work. The engine was cold, so the numbers may be off slightly. Here's the numbers we came up with...
Cylinder #1 = 145
Cylinder #2 = 125
Cylinder #3 = 155
Cylinder #4 = 115
Cylinder #5 = 140

Those compression numbers are all over the place I would recommend redoing the test when the engine is warm. As for the plugs, you should replace the 2 bads ones because that is probably one of the reasons the car is idling rough.

On plug #4, can you post a photo? I'm wondering if it wasn't properly torqued/too loose (VIDA calls for 25 Nm and no lubricant). Are you running premium fuel?

Bougicord wires are OEM not Bosch. I doubt it's the source of your problems but a couple members have said there cars won't run well w/o the Bougicord wires.

Bosch plugs and wires suck for the 850/70.
I'd get new OEM wires and plugs.
Also, in the cylinders with oil on the plugs, stick a twisted up paper towel into your spark plug socket, and get as much oil out as you can, then vacuum out any debris with a shop vac.
Do the compression test again with a warm engine. After you do the test dry, put a teaspoon of oil into each cylinder and see if the numbers improve. Your rings could be going.
Also, being that this is MVS, we must ask; Have you done your PCV system? Cleaned the PTC? Flushed your intercooler, radiator, and checked the tranny, brake, and ps fluid?

The Tune Up Kit was all OEM from IPD, so the wires were indeed Bougicord. I've attached the pic of spark plug #4. I think it is from pre-ignition. This was only after a short test run - maybe a mile or so. We grabbed the best of the old spark plugs to replace this one, for the time being. Plug #2 was fine, just had oil on it. So, after cleaning it up and putting an old plug in #4, it was only slightly better. Still idles rough, not all the power it had before. I'm wondering if I should soak up as much as I can and drive it to burn off the little bit of excess I have left? Would that do more harm than good?

Besides my '97 850R I had a '97 T5. THAT was a great car. Sorry I sold it. But both cars did poorly on the Bosch parts. I tried the plugs on both cars and while they held up for a few thousand miles on the T5, they looked OK but did a lousy job on the R, from the beginning. I see you have the Volvo R6 in your pics. They are great plugs and I won't ever use the Bosch again even though I have 5 brand new ones in my box of parts (new 3 years ago). Not sure why I keep them! Our '06 V70R also use the R6.

I forgot to reply to Alec's questions:
1. Have you done your PCV system? Cleaned the PTC? No, not yet. Since this was the 1st time working on the car for either my friend or myself, we wanted to ease into it by doing the oil change and tune up kit. I have the PCV kit from IPD in the garage, along with oil cooler lines.
2. Flushed your intercooler, radiator? The previous owner did this about a year ago.
3. Checked the tranny? The tranny seems fine, haven't checked it thoroughly though.
4. Brake and ps fluid? The car came with new brakes and slotted rotors from IPD. I'll have to check the PS fluid.
