Weird. Did the siren sound when you opened the door with the alarm set?

No, but the lights flashed. Oddly enough the message center now displays Alarm System needs service at start up, but goes away after a few seconds.

The siren has a faulty battery and has died. Sometimes when the battery is weak bit not yet completely failed you can do a number of things and it will recover.
The normal procedure when battery is disconnected for a time and the car goes into transport mode is to unlock it once with remote which exits the transport mode. TM is to reduce battery draw by reducing functions that use power when car is off.

Looks like I need to spend $300 for a remote and programming to get the sunroof to open then. Thanks

VIDA indicates that lock cycling with the key 3 times in a row exits transport mode as well. I'm thinking that the UEM can't chat with the siren and that's why it's not opening the sunroof (they both use the same serial lines and chat over Volcano Lite [now called LIN] protocol). First, I'd suggest unplugging the siren and see if it works after that.jimmy57 wrote:The normal procedure when battery is disconnected for a time and the car goes into transport mode is to unlock it once with remote which exits the transport mode.
EDIT: Regardless, replace the siren first. Now that there's a fault, VIDA won't put the car in programming mode unless all fault codes on all modules have been fault traced and cleared. The dealer won't be able to program a new remote unless the siren module works. I know...the interdependency of modules on these cars is just astounding.

Wow, still this is a great help. Where is the connection for the siren and where is the back up battery for it? Thanks again.

See this post: https://www.matthewsvolvosite.com/forums ... 11&t=17479 The battery is built into the siren sadly...and it's probably corroded and damaged the unit.brandonbeach14 wrote:Wow, still this is a great help. EDIT: And here's the wiring diagram for posterity showing that the SCM (Siren Control Module) and the SRM (SunRoof Module) both share the Volcano Lite port on the UEM...my bet is that the SCM is putting garbage on the LIN bus and the SRM can't get a word in edgewise.

Makes sense. I'll take out the siren to see how much corrosion if any as happened as it appears many others here have had varying degrees of problems. In following the links in the post the siren's cost has also went up. I put in a search through Erie Volvo for a used one. I will update after reviewing the connection. Thanks again
You DO NOT need the remote. In the drivers door is a switch that does all the same things that the remote does. All the remote does is make it easier for us lazy people to get into our car. Since the lights flashes the alarm was set and is wotrking, but like the last person said your sirewn is bad. All I know is what I told you ALWAYS works. Start from the beginning and yes the dash will tell you you need to fix the siren. turn the car on and then off and the second time it shoud stop showing this and the sunroof should work. If not you already know that your siren is bad. So fix it. It is in the upper fender well on the passenger side. Will need to get some of the special pop rivets from the dealer when you get your seren to put back together right. After that try what I said again. If that does not work you will need to go and get a download to get everything back on line. If you have to do the last part you somewhere or somehow wiped it. Good luck

The siren is not a download module. Disconnect battery ground and touch the terminal to the pos terminal and then re-connect to re-start the network when the key is switched on.
Used siren may only delay the problem until the used one fails.
Late Volvos have very low theft rates. Any stolen are stolen through use of the keys given the other theft deterrent systems on the car. Remove or at least unplug the siren and have a dealer do the "remove alarm" software. Hide valuables as the radio is not a theft target so they will not break in for anything on the car, only what's in the car.
Use that siren money for something that improves the usefulness of the car like bushings, spring seats, sway bar links, etc
