I am starting a project with my 740. ADVICE PLEASE!!!
Hello, I have a 1989 740GL (NA) which I am planning to convert to a 740TI. Any help? I have two engines to choose from..the B230F, and the B234F. I'm shooting for over 450HP. My B230F is the "K" engine..The one with the weak crankshaft and connecting rods..I heard I should look for a B23FT engine, or a post-1990 B230FT. How easily can I convert the B230 or B234 to turbo? HELP!!!!
Update: This is co51, I have just changed my name. I have come across this idea.. I have read somewhere that the B234F 16V heads will fit onto the B230 Block..how does this sound?
Lucy has been conceived, now we must wait for birth.

Sounds like a TON of work and even more $$ (like several thousand). And @ ~ 400 hp, it would be a very short lived. Volvo over-engineers their stuff, so 200-250 hp is resonable without really hurting reliability. 400 is pushing it way too far. And the 16 valve turbo is possible, but is a total custom job. A much easier and cost effective means would be to swap in a V8 from a late model mustang (5.0) Check out converseengineering.com. Good luck, whichever route you take!

If you are interested I have converted my 89 740, take a look at http://www.telusplanet.net/public/gilesij/Volvord/
I can promise you that there is no feeling that can match the torque from a V8, this car is an absolute blast to drive.
