More cooling fan problems...S60

Post by Jocelyn198 »

Hi-
We have a 06 Volvo S60 thats cooling fan is running all of the time when the car is on(it shuts off when the car is turned off) and the AC is not working. The check engine light is NOT on. The mechanic initially thought that the cooling fan module was bad and replaced it. The new fan did exactly the same thing. The mechanic then replaced the sensor and also unplugged the battery to give the car time to reset itself. The car initially ran great and the fan did not run. I drove on the Interstate for about 25 miles and the fan turned on. It turned off when I turned the car off but now when I start the car it runs again and doesn't shut off until I shut the car off. The AC doesn't work. Any ideas?? I don't know what else it could be!

How is your gas mileage? It might sound like an odd question but if the mileage is getting worse, your engine temp sensor could be the issue.

Also, even though the CEL is not on, that does not mean that there are no codes in the computer. I would scan it to see if anything comes up.

The gas mileage seems to be fine. I will ask the mechanic about he codes. I thought that the sensor was the problem and it seemed to fix the problem temporarily....it was frustrating to hear the fan turn on and stay on again! Thanks for the suggestions.

There is a pressure sensor on the high side of the air conditioning refrigerant circuit. I'm thinking it's causing the trouble here. If it's reading high pressure, the cooling fan will be forced on.

Thanks for the suggestion on the pressure sensor. Is that a sensor that can easily be replaced? It would be great if I could do it myself.

you'll need an AC shop to evacuate the system, replace sensor and recharge system.

Yup, no Schrader valve connection on that switch I'm afraid.
