Hi guys, Im thinking of buying an S80 and have seen a 2001 model that I like, my question is, how can I tell the difference between the 140hp engine and the 170hp one? the owner claims it's the latter but I'd like to be sure...
5 cylinder 2.4 w/o turbo is the 170 HP and 2.0 w/o turbo is the 140 HP.
There is a more specific list for S80 of that year but I could not find it readily though I believe I have a pocket data book for 01 model year around somewhere.
I believe Steve is from Northumberland, UK, so I know there were smaller displacement engines available for the S80; looking at the Europe partner group, the 2001 S80 was sold with various 5 cyl engines: a 2.0L turbo (180HP; B5204T5; engine VIN 49), a 2.5L turbodiesel and a 2.4L turbodiesel. The 140HP is a naturally aspirated 2.4L engine (type B5244S2; VIN 65), and if memory serves, the 170HP is the naturally aspirated B5244S (VIN 61, I believe). The engine VIN (6th and 7th numbers in the VIN) is absolutely the best way to tell.
