Check engine - Code 422

Post by AaronA »

I have a 2001 V70 2.4T. The check engine light just went on and I went to Auto Zone to have it read. They pulled up code 422.

Is that a catalytic code? Searching on-line I read that the Volvo codes and the standard codes are different and the 422 can mean different things. On the list of codes on this site (for 99+ models), there was no 422 listed.

Any ideas what it mean and any ideas how to fix it?

Thanks!

Usually the aft O2 Sensor, but could be the front one as well. Does the code read or specify Bank 1 or 2? The rear sensor is about $60 cheaper than the front. The cheapest place I have found them is on the FCP Groton site above. You should also check the Cat, look for corrosion, and tap on it. If you get a metal clanking noise, it's likely okay. But if you hear a thud, the Cat is likely bad. Many auto parts stores will read the code to give you a further breakdown. You can also search for the P0422 code on the main page of the 2001-2010 V70 forum in the "Search this topic.." box. This will pull up several previous posts for the P0422 code to help you get it fixed too. Good Luck.
