Upper suspension ball joint (Is there one on a volvo S60?)

Post by adam180 »

Hello Everyone
My car failed its MOT on thursday, and one of the things it failed on was, and I quote "Offside front suspension has excessive play in a upper suspension ball joint".
Now the first place I rang to get the part said, if it has got a upper ball joint we dont sell it, because nothing comes up on the computer.
The second place I rang said, its the ball joint on the base of the hub carrier, so I got it and fitted it.
Can anyone tell me if they think I have fitted the right part, because to be honest its this term "upper" that has got me confused :? , if it was a upper ball joint, I couldn't see a ball joint I would call a lower ball joint.
thanks
Adam

There is no upper ball joint but there is a rubber covered spring seat which is rubber bonded to an inner metal sleeve that goes on the strut. The spring seat separating from the sleeve will let the strut have motion that might be interpreted as the motion seen when a ball joint is worn past limits.
