where do you add freon to the ac of a 1986 volvo dl

fittings are on compressor. the low side is the larger diameter pipe side of the compressor. hold can upright to let only gas enter. It will take time. allowing liquid to enter directly into compressor with engine running is very risky to compressor.

Thank you for the info. I have to look again because I only saw one fitting on the compressor and couldnt figure out where the other one was, and i didnt know which side i saw.

I think you mean '86 240...Both fittings are on the back of the compressor, both are the same size, and are both 1/4 male flare type fittings...It is important to charge from the correct fitting...The fitting closest to the fender is the low side and is the one to use for charging...The one closest to the engine is the high pressure side...Both of them should have a cap on them...Maybe that is why you can't find the high side fitting, the cap, which looks like a big tire valve cap, is still on the fitting...The low side cap often gets left off so the fitting is easy to find...WARNING! do not connect a charge can to the high side while the engine is running, the pressure can be well over 200 PSI and can explode the charging can...If you use a manifold set, never open the high side valve while the engine is running...Same reason...
