leaking heater hose

ok, a few months ago, i wrote that i was replacing the motor on my 97 850 glt. well, its in and im just finishing buttoning it up. im trying to put the heater hose in but i keep getting a leak. i went to buy 2 o rings from the dealer but they dont help, plus they look a little small. how are these put together and how many o rings belongs in each heater hose at the firewall?im lower one leaks by just putting water in the resevior so i havent been able to check the upper heater hose yet.

My heart goes out to you, hopefully its just the matter of o-ring set up. However, if you have gotten a little frustrated and puch a little to much then you have probably cracked the hose coupler which what hear is very common on the 850's. Refer to this link maybe this will help.

thanks. i am sure that is my problem. i went to volvo to get replacement o rings and they just gave me two that were different sizes. the parts guy was no help. i guess i will be looking for the other o rings.

ok,

now that i got my motor going as i posted in another thread, i decided to by pass the heater all together. i just wanted to get this going. anyway, i put in some motor flush and some radiator flush. i drained the oil and put in some more after running it about 10 min. the motor runs great. no valve ticking, engine knocking. nothing. i still have to get an alignment and fix that heater coupling. hopefully i can get it back on the road with in this week and i dont run into any problems like leaking hoses or anything.

success. i stopped the leaking. i put in a new coupling for the heater hose to the firewall. i have to say, putting in the heater hose was the most difficult thing that i did during the whole process of r and r another motor. the problem was first taking it out. i had to cut out part of the firewall padding to be able to take the coupling out. then came puting it in. i had to cut more of the padding. then when i think i got it in, the hoses on the inside did not want to slide all the way in so the clips engaged. i feared that the o rings got in the way. well, they did and one of the plastic o rings broke. lucky for me, i had ordered extras. the metal hoses inside of the car are not flexible so this is what made it difficult. putting in the coupling took me about 3 hours to do. i was seriously thinking about just leaving the coupling out and connnecting them with heater hoses and hose clamps.
