SRS Light stays on after repair of ignition switch

Post by bbotzer »

OOPS.... I think I made a Boo Boo....

I just finished replacing the ignition switch on my 1999 V70
( I had the 'key just spins and spins' problem...)
so I used the procedures on this forum for removing the
AIrbag / steering wheel and drilling...
That All went well and the new ignition switch works great.

However...

To 'Check my work' (remember that from math class... ? )

I decide to hook up the battery and start the car while the airbag was still removed...

Everything work just fine, and the SRS light came on.. ( I would expect that because the Air bag was still reomved).

Then I disconnected the battery again, and finished my re-assembly...

Now the SRS light stay on...

From my research here.. It looks like 'once it comes on, it stays on, and you need to go to a dealer or appropriate service
shop to have them reset it.

Is that true... ?

Is there possibly some reset procedure I can do at home ?
(I have an ODB-II but I doubt that will do anything for this... so I havent tried it yet...)

I'm pretty sure I've reconnectect everything (especially the AirBag components correctly)....

It would be nice if the system had a periodic re-check, and would reset itself, insead of a 'one-shot'.

Bummer,

On a '99 you are correct - a trip to the shop is required to clear the code.

My draper tool which I use to reset my service light also resets the airbag light as well. I payed around $50 for mine, which might be cheaper than going to a dealer if you can find this scarce tool :)

Last time I looked, the Draper reset unit was running around $130.00,
but taking a quick look at eBay uncovered a deal for just under $50:

G'day

I did the same thing. Tested some electrical stuff with the airbag unplugged. SRS light came on and none of the tricks I tried worked. It took a trip to the mechanic to clear it...

But you've probably decided that already.

I don't think the Draper tool works on a 99
A trip to the dealer is in order.
Go to the back of the shop, offer a "Tech" 10 bucks to clear it
