I need tool advice

Post by SacMeatWagon »

I have a 1991 740. My front Crank and Intermediate shaft seals need to be replaced. Last time I took of my balancer it cost me a 120+ bucks for a new crank time gear because I broke the key. I was able to torque it down right this time because some one had a chain wrench. But now I don't have access to that tool and I can't find one large enough.
What tool can I use to hold the Harmonic Balancer/Crankshaft Pully in place so I can properly torque it down and where can I find it. I'm in Sacramento, California.
I need to get it fixed ASAP as I'm losing about half a quart every 100-150 miles.

Some may tell you don't do it, but I used the rope trick. I used some nylon rope through the spark plug hole on top of number one piston.

IPD sells this tool for timing belt changes, etc. Cost is $50, I believe.
