Bad CAT, O2 Sensors, or Vacuum Leak?

Everything on the Volvo S80. Sometimes called an "executive car", the S80 was Volvo's top-of-the-line passenger car. P2 platform.

Bad CAT, O2 Sensors, or Vacuum Leak?

Post by bronson1111 »

Codes:
-PO420: Main catalyst system efficiency below threshold (Bank 1)
-PO422: Catalyst system efficiency below threshold

I don't want to throw money at a mechanic so I am trying to figure this out on my own (Thank you google)! There seems to be so many different options for my CEL at this point. I just want to get rid of the light.

Some people say that instead of the CAT being bad.. the O2 sensors (which ones (I have four) I have no idea) could be sending the wrong signals making the check engine light turn on.. OR it could be a leak in the vacuum hose!!??

I need some expertise from the members of this awesome site!! Thanks!
