1999 s80 t6
shift solenoid code transmission was update in the proscess pulling the cover to replace both solenoids what other parts should be replaced and change the soleniod a fix for the soleniod code i can work on any car but rebuild transmission r not my thing
the car belongs to my daughter the are other problem for a later date, as driver window,siren,throttle unit, blank1,blank2
all codes. im told that this is a gm transmission i'm i waste time replace the soleniods,
thanks in advance p/s the shift solenoid code came back! on maunelly shift its help til i forgot to shift it.

Some info if anyone care to gIve some advise on 1999 volvo s80t shift soleniod problem .
so far i took off side cover and replace the both shift solenoid and clear all the codes i road test the vehicle .it didn't shift like i hope it would. i took it on the highway about 15 miles or so service transmission light came on went back check codes.
TCM 000c code.. beside think i'm screwed. and need to replace the transmission before i do that can anyone give ssome input.


A little history on the vehicle came from auction a one owner with only 64,000 miles. i flush the the trans with a trans flush machine n replace the filter and gasket. did up-date trans sofware (SW FID 605)-#30677036 TCM UPGRADE SOFTWARE
that didn't work codes said 2 shift solenoid. So thats why i just did the both shift solenoids ..

+1 on this, is there a VADIS procedure for replacing the solenoids?

I'm not sure about VADIS but in terms of the transmission I've been researching the issues due to the impending failure of my own...

The problem is that fixing one issue may not help and it needs a combination of fixes. Drawing a line between how far to go with partial fixes and a whole transmission rebuild is an issue. A fair amount of disassembly is required (from my understanding) to get to the solenoids in the first place. There are some good videos on youtube for the 4T65E in other front drive cars that give you the gist and keeping all the bits spotless is essential.

If it were me, to prolong the life of the clutches (with more positive shifts), when replacing the solenoids, I'd look into installing the shift kit (TransGo SK 4T65E [$50-70] which will fixes/prevents codes P1811 P0741). The shift kit can be partially ( installed through the transmission pan without further dismantling.

For the OP, this link may provide more info. the code described is 'slipping' which could be either a solenoid fault, or presumably an issue with the clutches being end of life...

I reckon, with careful sourcing of parts, the transmission (with new converter) could be rebuilt with the key weaknesses fixed, for around $1000 in parts. In Australia, I've been quoted $8000 for a replacement transmission - complete with original issues. So it's more tempting to have a go at it myself...

Long story short: Get a proper rebuild with a better valve body and tighter tolerances. You can buy the parts for around $1200 + shipping. If you want to rebuild it yourself, buy the manual. There are several specialty tools you can either buy or build.

Or you can pop off the side cover and replace them, just to have a transmission that still slips because the clutches are worn.

For some perspective say you have a manual with broken synchros and slipping clutch. Do you just replace the synchros so you can shift easier? Or do you replace the clutch as well so it can actually hold some power?
