Re: Stalling Problem.....

I decided to replace my MAF. The best deal I found was a company out of Boca Raton, Florida called http://programainc.com/default.aspx. I can get my MAF tested and rebuilt with a 3 year replacement for alot less than I could find with other suppliers. I'll Be Back for updates......

Hi Broke Wagon,

Sorry for the delay in responding on the AMM question. You could test the AMM using advice from this link, before you buy it. It would still be a good buy considering it is old.
http://www.volvoclub.org.uk/faq/EngineF ... alibration

I have never had a problem from my AMM going bad, so I have never done the unplug test before. It is considered the standard test however.

One problem I did have that I fixed, sort of like yours, was my fuel pressure regulator. I would be idling or driving at low speed and my engine would just stop. It would sometimes not start for 5 minutes, sometimes immediately. Another symptom I would have was while driving at highway speed I would suddenly just lose power, and velocity, and then after about 5 seconds I would gain power again. It would not happen for two weeks, then it would happen 5 times in 2 miles. I replaced my fuel pressure regulator after some research and life was good. If you have a symptom like that I would consider it. It is a pretty affordable part and a real easy install.

If you replace your AMM you might also want to check your air box thermostat. It only costs about 10 bucks online and is important to your AMM and fuel mixture. If it breaks closed it can burn up your AMM.

Good luck,

Dave

I had my MAF tested and it came out that it was working fine. The next step is the fuel pressure regulator which is on it's way from IPD. I'll keep updating as I know more..........

Just my two cents....your o2 sensor could the culprit...a simple voltage test with the car running will tell you if the o2 is working properly...i have a 940 turbo that also would stall after running and it was that sensor.

Thanks for the input.... I had replaced the o2 sensor and had listed that in my initial entry. I am still waiting for the fuel pressure regulator. I should have it ready for a test run some time in the next few days.

I installed a new fuel pressure regulator. Car ran pretty good after the engine warmed up. So far so good.
Next day took car for a ride. It ran good for a few blocks then had poor acceleration. I just make it back home. Engine did not stall.
Following day/ started with no problem... I let the engine warm up for about 10 mins. cleared the codes on the OBD and went for a drive. It pretty much had the same problem with the acceleration.
Code reading were 231 / 232 / 221 / 113
Here's just a recap of items that I've replaced
MAF Sensor
O2 sensor
Crank position sensor
fuel relay
replaced all fuses and cleaned fuse holders
fuel filter & both fuel pumps
plugs/wires/cap & rotor/ oil filter/ oil
Cleaned throttle body and adjusted throttle pos sensor ( used old gasket on throttle body )
I don't see or hear any vacuum leaks.
I listened to the the injectors using the screw driver to the ear method... there all ticking!!
The exhaust is in need of repair. I belive the header pipe and cat are still in usable shape. The mid-section pipe has a few holes. I also notice a small amount of soot coming out the tail pipe while the engine is running.
???????? questions/ comments ??????????

Broke wagon,

Judging from your parts replaced, same as me except I did a r&r of a used MAF sensor that came from a reputable car, my origional was fine... Had this issue of a faulty MAF on my wife's old v70. I replaced the relays, fuel filter, undercarriage fuel pump proved to be working etc...

In the end, my VOLVO mechanic saved me with a painful diagnosis that took him to my Ignition Module.
I even replaced my Pwer Phase and Ignition coil with BOSCH units before bringing him the car.

Lets say I was very annoyed by that time as I had. Like I said, he saved me from lighting a match back then and his honesty and reasonable pricing is what saved me.

I have a question for you.
Do you have a good VOLVO mechanic in Cape Coral.

My volvo mechanic's name is Dick, and he is located in Jupiter (Palm Beach County) and his MVS ID is Volvofix.
I moved here from Orlando in August of last year and he is great. Send him a PM and see what he says...

I wish you luck, I know how frustrating the situation is.

It's been over a month since I've tried anything with the car. I've been out starting it up once a week for the past month. I was going to have a mechanic look at it, but it wasn't in my budget this year.... I did try using SEAFOAM... now it just doesn't want to start. I am thinking about pushing it in the middle of my lawn and spreading some pine bark mulch around it. It would make a good lawn ornament......

Whate ever came of the local "independant" volvo mechanic you found locally?
Judging from the last post, being that the budget is an issue as it is all over for everyone, perhaps you never had the guy look at it.

What are your plans for the car then?
Not trying to take the shirt off your back, however if you have no immediate plans for the car and would consider selling it or perhaps parting it out... I am interested in the front bumper cover and spoiler (spoiler being black or painted the car's color not an issue.)

Let me know.
You can PM me if you feel you would go that route.

Thank you and good luck.
Eric in Jupiter, FL
