Rear end squeek when in reverse

Rear end squeek when in reverse

Post by Rosco »

Greetings from BC, Canada,
Just joined this site and I have to say thank you for all the helpful advice. We have recently acquired a 99 Volvo V70 XC and it has started to give us some grief. Of current concern is a squeek and what sounds like metal rubbing on metal when the car is driving in reverse. Took it to a mechanic and he says its likely a U joint that is dry and cannot be greased. Just have to "put up with it" until it gets unbearable. The sound is definitely from something that is turning when the car is in reverse motion and it doesn't happen when driving forward. Any suggestions would be much appreciated ! Thanks for your help.

Rosco, glad to have you here.
At the top of this forum, you will see Repair database, check that out first to see if can narrow down your symptoms. Or you can go to the 850/S/V70 forum and in the "search for topic", type in U-joints. Hope that helps.
