1999 S80 T6 with 147k almost starts
Re: S80 so close, won't start. Help me please!
Another Update, I have checked the cams and they seem to be lined up like they should be, also, my cylinders all have good compression, so if the timing was off, it was not far enough to bend any valves.

True.
Try this: put key in and try starting car, while trying wiggle the key and see if your dash board lights up like a Christmas tree (blinks), if so, then your ignition switch is bad. You really need to get a code reader to diagnoise properly. It will pay for itself.

I believe he said there are not DTC's but I don't know if he has actually connected a reader.... Perhaps he means there are no message in the message center window???
Right, I have connected a reader, and there are no DTC's. There is an ABS service required and SRS service required message in the message center. I plan on getting those fixed up once the car is actually running, unless one of those could be related to the non-starting issue.

If you can afford and think it worthwhile, see this code reader from a company called BSR in Sweden: http://en.bsr.se/products/503450/
I have the one which is no longer being manufactured and was quite a bit cheaper. It has paid for itself many times over. Reads all Volvo codes and clears all including the SRS code. I don't have any association with this company.

Wow, too bad those BSR units aren't any cheaper, that would be great to have. I removed, cleaned and reinserted the very old throttle module, it was quite gunked up and when I put it back, there seemed to be a marginal improvement, but still no start. Since it is the original white unit, I've decided if it isn't bad that it will be bad soon and ordered a new Xemodex unit. Interestingly, when I was taking out the unit I noticed that the air pipe between the intercooler and the throttle had a lot of standing water in it. I removed the water and also found that my air intake sensor was dead (likely from sitting in water), though the MAP seems fine. I'll replace both of those when they come and we'll see if it clears anything up... good luck to rbrothers, I'll make sure to let you know when (if?) I get mine running what the solution was.
Well, the thing just started (only once) after i dried out the Air temp sensor and put it back in. I have a scan tool that should show the MAP reading, and it didn't come up with anything, so I think that may be bad after all. When the engine started it had a fairly loud clicking/knocking that scared me into turning it off pretty quickly. Could this be from sitting and not running for so long? After I started it that time it would not start again, back to the old ways. Should I be very worried to continue to try and start it?
So today I finally got it running! I replaced the throttle with a Xemodex model and it starts right up! The MAP sensor does not appear to actually have gone bad, from what I can tell having replaced it with a new one. There is, however, still some sort of loud clicking coming from the engine. When the engine is running it looks totally smooth and seems to be firing appropriately, but this loud clicking, maybe from the left side of the engine is still coming out. Any thoughts?
Can we assume you have fresh oil of the correct viscosity?
