Air Conditioning Frozen Up???

Post by jimandlesleyvance »

I have a 2006 Volvo XC-90 with 115K miles on it. I just recently returned from a vacation trip in which I had some problems with the air conditioning. At different times during the travel (5hrs and 1hr into the trip) the air conditioning fan seemed to slow down and stop producing the amount of cold air it had been in the past. Outside, was very humid and the temperature had just dropped from about 90's to 77ish. Not sure if this would have anything to do with it or not, but once I was out of the humid upper 70's and back into the 80's+ the issue went away. To remidy the issue I turned the heat full hot for a couple minutes then back to cold and that helped for a bit. If it's a freeon issue...can I charge it myself? I've seen some post discussing a clutch replacement, etc. Would this fix me up? How do I do that? What is the relationship between the clutch and the AC system? Thanks for all the help.

Most autoparts store will loan you a pressure guage to check. The coolant used in a 2006 is also available at any autoparts store. Also have you check your belt to make sure it's tight or doesn't need changed? You definitely charge it yourself by simply following the directions on the can and I'm sure there's a post you can find in the "Search this topic..." above. Good Luck
