Hi there, just wondering if there are ways to take full advantage of the Turbos in our volvos...if you know a trick or two please throw them this way!! TIA...

-Turn up the boost.
-Get a better intercooler.
-Get some form of fuel and spark control, and more fuel.

Better airflow!!

I put a K&N in my naturally aspirated B200E 740 engine. There's a hill on my daily commute that used to slow me down before, but today I floored the pedal from 50 km/h onwards and watch the speedo climb all the way through 60...70...80..and 90 (3rd gear OD Off). By the time I got to 90, the tach read 3,500 rpm, which is beyond the maximum torque point of our low-end torque motors! And I was only on regular octane fuel!

hey adrian, how about a quickie lesson on how to turn up the boost?? As for fuel and spark control, isn't that controlled already??

Should I put an aftermarket intercooler or one from a donor volvo at the J-yard?? thanx for all the ideas my friend!!

Sure. Use some form of boost control (an MBC does the trick on a budget), and be sure to monitor AFR's. I'd suggest a wideband O2. Go gently at first, and don't go too far on stock engine management.

Yes, but using a programmable one will allow you to adjust the fuel and timing curves to something that will handle higher boost levels than stock safely. You have no control (unless you go with some seriously ghetto hacks) of the fuel and spark in stock form.

Truck intercoolers work nicely on a budget, if you're willing to do a little work. If you don't have an intercooler, GET ONE before you touch the boost. Go aftermarket if you have the cash.
If you're willing to notch the frame rails (it's in front of where the bumper shocks tie in, so not to worry

), a Ford Powerstroke intercooler is properly huge, and fits pretty well.

thanx dude, that's a bunch of help. So, I need to install an air fuel ratio gage, and make sure it doesn't lean out too much right?? Can I just go to the parts store and ask for a wideband O2 sensor or is this a special sensor?? Do you know of anyone that sells the programable unit for the timing and such?? Sorry for all the q's, I'm just very new to turbos, but I really appreciate your help!!
