Procedure to check for operation of radiator cooling fan

Everything on the Volvo S80. Sometimes called an "executive car", the S80 was Volvo's top-of-the-line passenger car. P2 platform.

The first way is with VADIS or VIDA and the communication tool linking car to your PC.
Second way is to use a DVOM with temp function and the thermocouple probe slid between upper hose and neck of radiator to watch coolant temp.
Third way would be an infrared temp gun tool pointed at upper hose.
Last is the seat of the pants way.
With the first three you monitor temp with a/c off and the fan should run due to temp at 220F +/- a few degrees.
The last way is you let it run and see that fan comes on before gauge goes up above midpoint.

A/C will trigger fan within 30 seconds of compressor running if temp is mid 80's or above, a little longer before fan starts if temp is lower than that.
If you want to see that fan speed will increase for higher a/c pressure then cover grille and opening below bumper with a towel and increase engine speed to 1200 or so and listen for fan to pick up speed.
Is there a problem with fan?

Fan doesn't seem to run. Most people here have issues with continuous running after shut down. It may be the fan itself. Would like to check first and rule out other factors.
