Can a T18 fit?

How to go faster, stop quicker, and turn harder. Chips, exhaust, larger turbos, bigger/slotted/drilled rotors, high performance brake pads, manual boost controllers, performance shocks/struts/springs, airbox mods and more! Also discussion on HID and Xenon lights, aftermarket foglights and other exterior lighting.

Can a T18 fit?

Post by Juan62 »

98 S70 T-5M, can I replace my 16T Turbo with a 18T? I was told mine is a straight angle, but the 18T is angled?
Thanks.

You can either fit the existing flange onto the 18t, or get a new header with a downpipe that will mate up with the 18t for a bit better pickup.

How much do you like turbo lag? The 18t is going to dramatically change the powerband of your engine. It will pull like a freight train at the top end, but it's going to be a complete slug before it picks up. With a manual, you've at least got another gear to keep it in the powerband. Some people are willing to make that sacrifice for more top end power, but personally, with the kind of driving I do (as an everyday go-to-work and drive all around car), I hate the lag even of the 16 when I want the car to move RIGHT NOW in traffic, not take 2-3 seconds to reach full power at 35 mph.

Your money might be better invested in an ECU tune and some good tires - the 16t has lots more potential than the stock 10psi, and before too long, the front tires just can't handle all the power being put through them at low speeds.

Actually, IPD has done the ECU, but not for stage 2 or 3. This where I'm heading...Stage 3.

Yes an TD04-18 can fit provided your tune is good and not too aggressive you will gain some nice results wouldnt suggest you go above 18psi on a stock engine the rods really dont like it although the pistons will cope with 400bhp ++ as will the auto transmission [utoh I've said a naughty word]
