98 V70XC AWD Exhaust Manifold Flex Replacement

Post by Credit2u »

Okay,

I have looked about, researched and searched to the point of distraction. I'm hoping someone can help me out.

Have a 1998 V70XC AWD with Turbo ~240k miles. The flex pipe between the exhaust manifold and the cat is broken (from what I can tell, that is no big surprise). I need to replace this, but everyone carried the non-turbo for a reasonable amount, almost no one carries one turbo compatable and those that do are asking BIG BUCKS! I am not in the position to drop over $900 on a new one. I was gagging at the thought of spending $250 when I first started looking and saw the ones for the non-turbo.

Can anyone suggest alternative ideas?
Somewhere else I can get one for a reasonable amount?
Ideas to fix the one I have? If so, where to find the parts and how to get it all together?

I would really appreciate any input.

Thanks!

I went the OBX Racing route and just replaced the exhaust manifold on my '96 N/A with one of their headers. They do make turbo back systems as well for the HPT models and you might be able to buy just the pipe from the turbo to the line to the CAT from them but I don't know if they make the stuff for the LPT models. They list very little pertaining to Volvos on their site but they have an 800 number and I think they can make just about anything. The OBX stuff is really well made, all stainless steel and very well welded, plus it was less than half of the cost of the Chinese crap listed on eBay.

Beyond that you might want to talk to a local muffler shop to see how much it would cost to cut out the old joint and weld in a new "universal fits-all" flex joint.

I'd take your car to a dingy independent that has been around for a while and gets all the cars with 150k plus. They do plenty of welding and cutting of exhausts and can hook you up for a few hundred bucks

Initially I was going to use OBX as Lee said but chickened out because I plan to keep this car for another 10 years or so.
So I bought an OEM Volvo Exhaust Manifold and put it is.
Part about $400.

Search for the DIY under my name.

Re difference between standard V70 vs XC70, ask your local dealer for the PN.
It may be the same Exhaust manifold (I am not sure but check with dealer).
