I am a new member of the board and I have a 2004 Volvo S60. I got a warning that I needed alarm service and the battery failed. A former Volvo tech replaced the battery and the starter, which he said failed because the battery failed. He checked the electrical system and said the alarm was fine. The new battery seems to be failing again only a few weeks later and the alarm system warning appears sometimes but not always.
I found something online called the Valiant Alarm Bypass module for about $33. It seems to be used by aftermarket alarm installers to bypass the factory unit when installing an aftermarket alarm. Has anyone installed an alarm bypass as a way of avoiding paying $600 to a dealer to replace the factory unit? If so, did you have to visit the dealer to reboot the computer after installation?
Any help will be welcome, and thanks for reading this thread.

I can't comment on the bypass module you mentionned. However the problem you described is associated with the siren module.
Look at this tread to see how it is replaced.

And this one on part vendors.

It is a project someone can do and the repair cost will be reduce by at least a factor 3.
There is no need to visit the dealer to reinitialize.

Another option is to remove the siren and then go to dealer and have alarm remove software installed. Volvos with the chipped key don't get stolen and smash and grab thieves don't care if it has an alarm so the alarm may be of no benefit.
I doubt the Valiant thing will do the trick on the an S60.

Many thanks to those who replied. I bit the bullet and bought a new siren and installed it. All works well and recycling the door openers reset the codes. I did follow the advice of a mechanic friend and reattached the inner fender liner with sheet metal screws rather than rivets so it can be easily removed the next time.
