V70R Tuned but light stutter highway

Post by SimLyons »

Our V70R has 58K miles on it and is well maintained. Just did the plugs, air filter, oil/filter, trans. flush, etc. It accelerates like a banshee and runs fine at all throttle positions except steady state highway (a very, very light stutter). No codes. Prem gas. Wondering if there is a coil or 3 on the edge of failing, or...???? (Oh...I gapped all the plugs.)

Look closely at the coils for any signs of cracking on the sides.

It may also be worth cleaning the mass airflow sensor. They sell cans of spray cleaner at auto parts stores - remove the sensor, spray the guts without touching anything, and let it dry for an hour or two before reconnecting it.

Did the MAF treatment. Didn't affect the results. Will take a look at the coils. What am I looking for? Black or gray/white streaks where they might be shorting?

Your going to be looking VERY small black hairline cracks in the plastic at the top of the coil, my t5 was having the same issue with no codes and I changed everything you did as well but nothing was working. I finally broke down and bought 5 new coils hoping it would solve my problem and sure enough...3 of my old coils were cracked and I had'nt seen the cracks until I pulled them. Do yourself a favor and change all 5, I went with the IPD hds and she was as quick and smooth as ever . Good luck

Holy Moly guys! This is a real money maker for those parts guys, eh? I figure $265-300 for a set. How long do these things "normally" last? 58K miles is nothing to brag about! Before splurging I'll inspect closely. Thanks for the joy, guys!! :)
