Re the ETM needing to be recognised, with the XeMODex ETM, it's "plug n play" (or rather not in my case !)
But the ETM (this one) shouldn't need any software from the dealer...and as I guess they have sold these ETM's before, the first time it needed to go to a dealer for software, it would be all over a forum.
I checked for blown fuses, and all are ok.
Will get some more fuel in the tank. I am suspecting this "nose down incline" may be (oddly) playing a role in this !
I read this on the forum
"Disaster, my 2001 S60 T5 would not start this morning! It turned over but would not fire!
I contact my mechanic and he asked if it was parked on a hill, it was pointing down hill. He then asked how much fuel there was, it had about quarter of a tank (145 miles to go according the trip computer). He told me to either roll it onto the flat or add a gallon of fuel if you have some spare. As it happened I had a full can of unleaded for the lawnmower so I added that and it started first time.
I rang him back and he said that the problem was a design fault with all S60, V70 etc were by if you park on a hill with a certain angle (steeper or shallower is ok) and leave the car for a while (mine had been parked overnight) with low'ish fuel the pressure drops in the tank and it will not pump the fuel.
He said it was quite common but I had not heard of it before. So thought I should let you all know in case you had a similar problem and that the fix is quite easy.
Has anyone else had this problem and does anyone know if this problem is fixed on newer Volvo's?
PS Parking nose up from now on!
....anyone else come across this problemo before ????
David

UPDATE.....
Well, the new XeMODeX ETM runs perfectly. I would have to say, probably better than the "Volvo" new ones.
On first starting, it ran a little rough, so shut it down...and restarted. It was perfect.
Drove it awhile and thought my fuel gauge was stuck ! Jeeez, the fuel it must be saving. Or rather, these faulty (or going wrong ETM's from Volvo), must go through fuel like a mad Arab digging it
On the other note.... it is true...V70's wont start if left for a wee while (or repaired) on an incline or hill.
Pulled it back about two feet, put on some jump leads....and on the first turn of the key, it sparked into life.
So, be aware, parking for awhile, with the nose down hill, will cause you to have a "non starting" problem.
Hope it helps someone else finding this information ...as another person had found this out, and kindly posted it. Saved me alot of head scratching.
