244 Dash Electrics

Howdy all, this is my first post, and I just want to congratulate you all on a great forum.
My history is that I have owen 3 volvo's previously, a 76 244dl, an 81 244 carbie, and an 83 244 gl.
I would have kept the last one, but I need power steering due to a hand injury.
Anyway, after company cars and change of employment I inherited my folks 87 Camry which I am now replacing with a recently aquired 79 244GL.

Anyway, the previous owner adv a couple problems, one is that the dashlights dont work, it blows the fuse automatically, and the second is the pre-fuel pump is dead, but it has not been tested.
My previous cars have not had any electrical problems previously, and after being rear ended once I have had to replace the fuel pump only once as well.
I imagine I will have to send olive off to an auto electircian for a check up, and get the pumps tested, but I tought i would mention these problems on here first - just in case there is an exisitng well known issue you can advise me on.
