How hard is it to replace a radiator on an S70?

Help, Advice and DIY Tutorials on Volvo's P80 platform cars -- Volvo's 1990s "bread and butter" cars -- powered by the ubiquitous and durable Volvo inline 5-cylinder engine.

Keep in mind I'm a novice/wannabe mechanic.....
My motorcycle was so much easier to work on....:(

That's all you need to be. It's not terribly difficult, but the tedious part was dropping it out.

As yours is a non-turbo, that part should be easier.

Remove the fan shroud, and pull it out from the top. Have bungee cords (OR A HELPER!) on-hand to help you with this. I'm not sure I could have done it without my brother - that radiator/intercooler together is heavy to hold up while trying to bolt in.

There is no magic involved, just basic stuff, and it would be hard to really screw anything up to bad. You will learn by doing and save yourself a ton of money.

Last call on any tips on doing this replacement, besides the ones mentioned. I'm excited to try this on my own. Hopefully I will get it done with no problems tomorrow morning.

I used the posts on this site and Volvo XC forum, my VIDA DVD that I got on Ebay and the link to volvospeed.com listed above. I have the turbo, so it was a little more involved, but I just took my time and I got it done. And saved a lot of money. My Volvo dealer told me that they weren't sure why my car was losing coolant. They wanted $3100 to replace radiator, coolant pump and the head gasket. I said, "No thank you." and about that time I noticed a slight spraying of coolant out of the side of the radiator. It had a crack and they couldn't find it. Imagine that? So I ordered a new radiator and hoses from FCP Groton and fixed it myself. Just watch where all your electical hookups go when you disconnect, so you get them all hooked back up. And if you get into trouble, just get on this forum and there's plenty of help available. And don't forget to have fun with all that money you save. Good luck.

I always have a digital camera handy and snap away, sometimes its months from the finishing of a bike, paint, etc to the time I put it back together for the last time, sometimes its 3 or 4 bikes at a time, so without the pics I would be lost.. And i do it everytime Im working on the cars as well... It just makes it much, much easier..

I need help with the connection to the AC. What do I do with it. It seems attached to the condenser and its keeping me from dropping the radiator. Please help!!

DON"T disconnect anything to the condenser or you will lose all charge to the a/c. I assume you are removing it from under the car. I just did one a few week ago. It took some wiggling, and pushing things aside but it came out ok
