I ordered an OEM timing belt tensioner (1993 940) last week, but when I opened the package it was INA, not Contitech.
Talked to the vendor and if I understood correctly, they said Contitech / Continental must get their tensioners made by INA and they just didn't stamp it with the Contitech label.
Does this make sense?
I pretty much follow what they're saying, but want to make sure before I put a non-OEM tensioner in my car. Especially after reading about counterfeit INA tensioners and the problems they cause on the 850 forum (various pages of that post). Even though a bad tensioner wouldn't be as risky for the 940 as for the 850, I would still prefer to keep my engine timing parts OEM.
Also, if anybody knows of genuine Contitech tensioners out there, maybe I'll return the INA and get one of those.
They shipped INA instead of Contitech

As far as I know INA is oem. at least for the 850's. somebody correct me if i'm wrong but all the pulley's i've taken off have been INA.

For 850s, I've heard INA is right. But I thought Contitech was OEM for 940s because that's how IPD lists it, and because billofdurham confirmed that.
So the main thing I was worried about was why they didn't ship me Contitech, since that's what I ordered.
Over the phone, they said something like:

INA is the one that makes it for Volvo so it is an OE Pully.
Conti does not make that pully at any time or place, they simple a making a kit to make it easier for shops and they source it from someone else.
What you have is the OE, install it and drive the car.!
